Björn Axén has educated hairdressers in Stockholm for over 40 years. The Björn Axén Academy was founded in 2004. We are proud to say that 97 % of our graduated students are permanently employed as hairdressers. Having a strong brand like ours, we cannot afford to educate poor craftsmen.
The many talents within Björn Axén enable us to pass down the workmanship to our students, hence offering a very broad education. Many of our excellent teachers have won both Swedish and international awards for their professional skills.
THE PERIOD OF STUDY The total period of study, if counting both the time in school and the internship, is two years. You spend the first 57 weeks of your hairdresser education working in the school premises. This is followed by 9 months of hair salon internship. The final phase is a 12-week preparation for the Björn Axén Exams, followed by the Hairdresser Journeyman Examination.
Becoming a hairdresser is so much more than just cutting and colouring hair. As teachers it is our responsibility to also teach our students everything from straightening to bridal hairdos.
Hairdressers are part of an industry where fashion changes in an instant and details come and go. The Björn Axén Academy continuously adapts its courses both in terms of content and teaching methods. As an example, we have introduced make up and extensions to the schedule. You will always be taught the very latest within the trade as well as the timeless, classical techniques.
THE JOURNEYMAN EXAM
We work hard to prepare our students for the journeyman exams, the hairdressers “drivers licence”. When you’ve passed our tough examination, you can rest assures that you will pass the journeyman hairdresser exam (which is obviously included in the course fee).
The Björn Axén Academy is approved by the Swedish Education System, the National Agency for Higher Vocational Education, the Swedish Hairdressers Association and the Swedish Union of Commercial Employees. The school is under government supervision, which means that you don’t have to pay value added tax.
POST GRADUATE COURSES
Björn Axén Academy also offers a wide range of supplementary courses for hairdressers. We focus on updo training courses for both new beginners who want to learn the basics and experienced hairdressers who need inspiration, new ideas and a real challenge.
Our syllabus includes several styling and bridal courses, and also different kinds of inspiration evenings.
If you’ve been on parental leave, haven’t practised your profession in a while or have a gap in your education, our “UP TO DATE” course will update you on the building blocks of hairdressing in just one week.
We also provide tailor-made courses - optional content to fit just about anybody, anywhere. Do share your idea with us, we adapt to your needs.
We’ll bring the latest in colouring, styling and hairdos to your salon, customizing the training program to fit you and your colleagues needs. Should you prefer to be elsewhere, you are more than welcome to our facilities.
All of our courses, whether short courses, evening classes or training over a long period of time, are run in small groups.
